An update on Cowra!
On the 24th of May 2014 the U9 Red Pirates travelled to Cowra, Central West NSW. With a touring party of 46 including players, parents and siblings, it was a fantastic weekend had by all. We experienced some good tough local rugby on the Saturday with the Cowra Eagles grade sides taking on the Parkes Boars. It was then off to dinner in the vineyards; The Quarry Restaurant, where all enjoyed an exceptional feed and beautiful local wines from Swinging Bridge Estate. On the bus both to and from dinner the boys let Cowra know they were in town with some very loud and passionate renditions of the team song… “Up the Mighty Pirates…ARRRHHH!!” There is one thing you don’t need to coach in rugby… Bus trip + rugby tour = singing!
Sunday was then finally upon us with the Norths Pirates set to take on the local side at 9:00am as the opener for Cowra Gala day. There were teams from Cowra, Orange, Bathurst, Parkes, Dubbo, Canowindra and Forbes, all representing the Central West. The boys from the big smoke turned up and played some electrifying rugby in all three games. The boys spirit, attitude and sportsmanship have to be acknowledged, they were the perfect touring party and represented the North’s Junior Rugby Club with distinction. Thankyou to all the parents for making the effort to travel to Cowra and ensuring the 25th/26th May was such a wonderful weekend.
